What’s in a Name? Defining Embellish

Can I share with you one of my most equally horrifying and hilarious moments as a business owner?

I was maybe three years into this business when I was at a networking event and someone said to me, "So Embellish Marketing, like you 'embellish' when you're marketing...?" 🧐

I looked at this person, trying to understand what they were implying when it suddenly dawned on me: the word embellish also has a negative connotation of stretching the truth.

UGH! After my initial horror wore off many hours later, I found the conversation (and my oversight on this matter) to be quite funny because:

The marketer had failed to identify all of the potential blind spots in her brand… LESSON LEARNED AND HUMBLE PIE EATEN. 😂

Embellish is a word that came from a favorite hobby many years ago, scrapbooking. I've always loved paper crafting, and in scrapbooking, to embellish a scrapbook page meant to add some pizazz to it - a little sparkle, glitter, color, texture - whatever was needed to make it POP.

To set the record straight, by definition, Embellish Marketing makes your marketing more attractive by decorating, adorning, or ornamenting it. We take what you have and add our special touch to give it some pizazz.

THAT'S how we "embellish" your marketing efforts, not by stretching the truth.

Despite that faux pas a number of years ago, I’m so grateful for those who have understood our intent over the years and even expressed how much they loved the name Embellish Marketing. Thank you!

As we look ahead to a new year, if you need a little help decorating or adorning your branding with a little something special, please reach out. We’re happy to help!
