This month's Creative Mornings Louisville talk by David Vawter on Identity and Branding was so good!! Thank you to the Creative Mornings team for their hard work taking the meeting virtual this month. I'm already looking forward to the next one!

I wanted to share this takeaway from David's response to a question at the end regarding what brands should be doing during the COVID-19 pandemic: "Do not stop talking."

YES.

I've been saying to anyone who would listen in the past two weeks that NOW is the time to market. NOW is the time to get your message out there. NOW is the time to build on that relationship with your customers. If you keep talking, you'll stay relevant and have a faster comeback as we move out of our current situation. Now is NOT the time to be quiet. If you do, you'll lose momentum for your brand and allow other brands to fill the silence you're creating. When you do start talking again, you'll have to work harder for a longer time to gain back the ground you lost.

So, what do you say? It's kind of an awkward time, right?

  1. Be authentic. We're all in this together so we understand each other more than we may have before.

  2. Choose your words wisely because what you say matters right now. Are you going to add to the chaos or be the calm in the midst of it

  3. Share your brand values. We're all looking for connection right now so remind your customers just who/what your brand is. Remind them why your brand is a good fit for them now and in the future.

It's not about making the sale right now. It's about making a connection.
